Discover the Leader Within Yourself

The McMaster Humanities Mentorship Program is a unique opportunity for upper-year students to make a positive impact on the experience of fellow students. The program helps participants develop the invaluable leadership skills sought by employers.

About the Mentorship Program

The program is designed to immerse senior students in a structured mentorship relationship with other students who are new to McMaster University, working with international students whose first language is not English.

Mentors also engage in an in-class component where they study the foundations of leadership and cultivate an interest in the mentoring process. A few of the topics discussed in class are:

  • Effective Leadership Communication
  • Leading Change
  • Motivating and Empowering others
  • Emotional and Social Intelligence
  • Conflict Management and Effective Collaboration

Students examine a number of leadership principles and techniques designed to foster greater self-awareness and a better understanding of others, and apply their learning to their mentorship role.
